It’s time for another Book Talk Tuesday!  I’m linking up with Deanna Jump again to share one of my favorite books.  The book I’m sharing today completely blew me out of the water when I read it.  It’s called Boy, Were We Wrong about Dinosaurs! and it’s by Kathleen V. Kudlinski.

I came across this book while I was working on my shared reading curriculum for 2nd grade.  You can read about 44 other fabulous books I used in the curriculum by clicking {here}.

Anyway, this is a nonfiction book that is most appropriate for 2nd or 3rd graders.  The book takes apart many of the “facts” that scientists once believed to be true about dinosaurs.  This information (or mis-information, rather!) is what I learned about dinosaurs when I was in school.  I don’t know if it’s because my younger brother was obsessed with dinosaurs or because I just love some good myth-busting, but I was fascinated by this book!

Some of the surprising things I learned while reading it include:

– Dinosaurs’ tails didn’t actually drag on the ground, even though previous illustrations show them that way

– Many dinosaurs probably had feathers, rather than scaly skin

– Some dinosaurs may have been brightly colored

What fun for me to hear your delight with all the new discoveries on dinosaurs! I hope it went over well with the second graders. Isn’t it amazing how gleefully they learn dinosaur names? I remember teaching second grade science in North Carolina. That is such a sweet age!
. Here’s a secret: I will have two new “Boy Were We Wrong” books out in 2015, one on Weather and another, on the Human Body.

So exciting to hear from you, Kathleen! My kids love this book as much as I do. I can’t wait to read the new ones! Your writing is awesome! 🙂
